7+ SEO Best Practices Checklist for 2019

If you are reading this and saying well, my SEO is pretty good, then look upon this as a reminder of possibly some ideas that you might have forgotten about

How Important is SEO

Well that question is probably best answered like this

Good SEO will produce you long term investment and profits back into your business

After all, without it, you can produce content, but will that content get found?

Good SEO, means that your content will get found, possibly years after your first wrote your article and you may have even moved on from the subject your initially wrote about, but thanks to the search engine optimisation when preparing your article, then people are still finding you years afterwards

As an example, I wrote an article back in 2010, which got found by a fellow business owner, who though he wasn’t interested in the subject himself, forwarded it on to a colleague of his who he knew was. That colleague, brought the solution I was writing about

Having good SEO means that even if you are forced to stop writing at any time, because of the way your site is structured, the search engines will continue to rank your website and drive traffic to it, which ulitmately means potential profit to you

Think of this

“When a site ranks in Google, chances are it stays that way” …

So with that said, lets look at the checklist.

We start with On Page Factors

These are the optimisation actions done on your website, such as

Proper Keyword Research. By that you are looking for high search, but low competition

Now you can check in Google, all well and Good, but if you want the complete edge on your competition then you really need This Tool as it does much of the heavy lifting for you

Your Keyword, needs to be in the Post Title and grammatically correct, by that, it needs to be researched the way you would ask the question. Though once you have found it, you can append it, either before it, or after it, so that it stands out a little more

Your Keyword need to be in the Meta Title. The Meta Title shows in the search results, so a way of making it stand out slightly more is to capitialise the first letter in each word.

Once you have done the Meta Title, Your keyword should then needs to be in the Meta Description and camel cased.

The Meta Description is the abstract of the post you are writing about, so you can camel case it, but omit words like

Of ,And, The which are also known as stop words, as you will see in the image below

Meta Description

You should also have 1 Internal Link as well, within the post,  which preferably should go to an authority source

As an example of an authority source, you could use Wikipedia

Then you need to have an Alt Tags, within images, together with relevant keywords. If you are wondering what an alt tag is, then This Article Explains More

Rich Snippets though this would only be best, if the post was a review. Rich Snippets are Meta Descriptions, with stars directly underneath the Meta Title, but rest assured, if you are wondering how to do this, then there is a plugin called Author Review, which does the job for you and creates rich snippets

When you see it in action you will understand how powerful it can be for your content

Comments  are another great way to help boost the SEO. By encouraging people to comment on a post, it shows google that your site is building and gaining trust

One of the most important factors with SEO, is how fast your site loads and whether or not it is SSL

Thankfully, of all the hosts on the market place, This One ensures that all that is taken care of, with their premium account, whereas others, will charge a small fee, for this, which is usually hidden somewhere in the terms and conditions

So, with the On Page Factors covered, lets now look at some Off Page Factors

No… This doesn’t mean going into the street and telling everyone you meet that you have a new blog post up and they need to go and read it, right now

It simply means, promotion of your blog post, through the various social media channels and other events that you might go to off page and off line!

For Example…

Social Sharing

This is done through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest to name a few But before you start thinking you have to be all over all of them… Relax!!

Only use the channel/s that work best for you, so if Twitter and Pinterest work better for you, then focus on those two for now.

YouTube is  really great place for improving your SEO

To do this you would need to open or start a YouTube Channel first of all and then upload videos, which encourage others to comment on them, through the discussion tab which you can below

When uploading the videos, the same rules apply to making them, that does to writing a blog post. You also need to make sure that you have a link either to your blog, or better still one to your list

A major benefit of using YouTube, is that is owned by Google and so they will rank videos, pretty much like they rank blogs, plus embedded videos from YouTube onto your blog, mean that it helps your SERPS

Once the discussion tab is growing and when you have 10,000 subscribers to your channel, then the discussion tab turns into a communities tab so you effectively get more people looking at your channel

So, there you have it…
